Hi, I’m Kenyatta
I lived in my house for 13 years before I started decorating it. You read that right. THIRTEEN YEARS!
My husband bought our home just four months before we got engaged. We were young, fresh out of college, and excited to start our life together. You’d think my house would have been bursting with style, right? Nope! We had white walls, builder-grade everything, and black leather bachelor-pad furniture. The only room in my home that had been designed was a nursery for my son.
This might sound crazy to people who knew me as the over-the-top event decorator, graphic designer, and marketing communications guru for over 20 years.
Finally, in 2015, I got tired of being stuck in my what-am-I-going-to-do-with-this-house funk. I was ready to turn our house into a home, but I quickly realized that decorating a living room was a whole different ballgame than decorating a nursery.
So, I did what any curious creative would do: I went down the Pinterest rabbit hole. I devoured magazines, blogs, and anything else that could teach me how to pull a room together. With a limited decorating budget, I had to get creative, make smart choices, and figure things out as I went.
The more I learned, the more I noticed patterns in my decisions. I defined my signature style and things became easier. I started developing my own systems for choosing colors, pulling together a look, and making a room feel cohesive. What once felt overwhelming slowly became something I genuinely loved.
That journey eventually led me to DIY blogging, where I shared what I was learning and helped others make their homes more beautiful, too. But it also taught me something important: DIY isn't for everyone. And even if you love a beautiful home, that doesn't mean you want to spend every weekend trying to create one.
That's where My Design Rules Studio comes in.
I combine my creative background, design experience, and strategic way of thinking to help homeowners create spaces that feel like them. Not a copy of something they saw online. Not a room that follows every trend. A home that reflects their personality, fits their lifestyle, and makes them happy to walk through the door.
I believe decorating should be exciting, not exhausting. You shouldn't have to make hundreds of decisions, second-guess every purchase, or spend years trying to figure it all out on your own.
My job is to help you discover your signature style, bring your vision to life, and make the whole process feel enjoyable and effortless.
