Hi Emely, I’m so glad you found these posts helpful. I used 1 quart of each color and 1 quart of primer. There was plenty of it left over after I was done.
I gave the laminate a VERY light hand sanding with a 220 grit sanding block…just for good measure. I’m not sure it’s actually needed. Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions. I would have loved for some extra support when I was trying to figure everything out.

You did a great job with this project! I’m planning on doing the same and was so grateful to find your posts on how you created the shaker style cabinets and the paint/primer you chose. Could you give me an idea of how much paint and primer you ended up needing and how much space you were painting? I’m in the planning/budgeting stage and want to make sure I have enough paint/primer for the project but not an extreme abundance. Also, did you sand down the laminate or just the MDF shaker pieces you installed?

In reply to Toni | Small Home Soul. I tried chalk paint on one piece of furniture and couldn't understand what all the hype was about. The piece turned out beautiful, but I certainly wouldn't use it on my cabinets.

So many great tips for painting cabinets and choosing the right paint for a long lasting and successful finish.. If you really want the Finish to last, you’re right, you have to pay for a quality paint. I used Sherwin-Williams proclassic on my Ikea desk and it’s holding up like a champ 3 years later. I was sad that I had to choose a different paint for my navy blue vanity but it’s worth the money to know your finish will last. I’m a once and done kind of girl and don’t understand the many people who use chalk paint on their kitchen cabinets. They’ll be painting again before they know it.
