How to Save Money on Home Decor Using Pinterest

I hate to part with a dollar. My sister calls me cheap. I just call it being smart with my money. And to help me save as much as possible, I always shop with purpose and a plan. No random finds and impulse buys for me (well mostly). One of my favorite ways to shop and SAVE MONEY is online using Pinterest.

Yes Pinterest.

Your favorite pastime for home decor ideas, parties and DIYs can save you cash!

I discovered it almost by accident when I was working on my living room, I saved an image to my design board and up pops a few other options and low and behold some of them had much better prices.

So, in my, ‘lemme-save-every-coin-manner’ I now pin everything I can before I make a purchase. EVEN when shopping in-store.

What’s that you say? You wanna hear my money-saving ways? Of course, girl. Here’s all the tea on saving money using Pinterest.

Start with a Plan

Before we even get into it, don’t waste a bunch of time online just browsing for a deal. Start with a design plan and use it to test out items you’ll be using in your rooms. If you need to know how, check out my post on creating a mood board. Once you have a base plan done, you can find your items of similar items using this cheat method.

You’re not using Pinterest right if you’re not doing this.

I’m a huge proponent of having a lot of Pinterest boards to help you make decisions.

Make a general Idea board or the room you’re working. Pin. Ideas, products and features of a room you like, then if you get stuck making decisions, refer back to your board OFTEN. Determine what you like about the rooms you pinned and go in that direction. Here’s the board I created with my friend.

Now, here’s the part where most people miss the mark. For difficult decisions make a whole separate board.

Say you’re stuck deciding what lamps to purchase. You should start a whole ‘nother Pinterest board titled Bedroom Lamps. Pin all the contenders plus any dream lamps you know you can’t afford.

Here’s where the magic happens...

Once you’ve narrowed down the design of the item, click on it and scroll down to see more like it underneath. If other stores carry it, the pins will populate with a price tag. And prayerfully you’ll be able to score a sweet deal!

Always Always Always check!

I’m working on a project with a friend and we spotted this cute little console table on Wayfair for $227.

We were almost ready to hit buy when I decided to pin it and found it on Walmart for $100 less! Yes. $100!!! Plus, she saved another 5% by using Rakuten cashback!

Use Pinterest in store

Say you’re shopping in-store and see a glam lamp you want and maybe they only have one and you need two. Or maybe you’re window shopping in Ethan Allen knowing good and well you can’t afford it but like to be inspired.  My first step used to be to Google it. But now, you can snap a photo using your phone then use the Pinterest Lens feature to find what you’re looking for…prayerfully cheaper.

This has so many useful possibilities and it doesn’t stop at home décor.

Use these tips to save on EVERYTHING! Clothes, shoes, household items and even electronics.

I LOVE THIS! I never knew that Pinterest had this feature. I will definitely be scrolling to the bottom of my Pinterest finds now.

I love Pinterest! I told myself 2020 would be my decor year. I’m glad I’m seeing all these tips before I made any major purchases. Is there an app to create mood boards for home decor? I’m being lazy not wanting to get on my laptop and use PowerPoint to create them.

Yes to 2020 being a year of Decor! Go for it. As far as apps…I’m not sure. I’m attached to my computer all the time so I’ve never searched for any apps, but I’m pretty sure there are. Perhaps I’ll do a little digging and find some good design apps.
